The RWE Foundation, which was founded in 2023 by RWE, a global leader in renewable energy, is supporting  Omphalos, the Italian NGO for the LGBTI+ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans*, intersex) community. RWE has donated €48,000 to the organisation’s “Pink House”, an Anti-Discrimination Centre and Shelter House for young LGBTI+ people who are victims of discrimination and violence. It offers material and psychological support to LGBTI+ people whose family of origin or society have turned their backs on, and who need a safe place to be themselves and regain control over their lives. The donation from the RWE Foundation will allow the Anti-Discrimination center to provide a range of important free services to support people in need (psychological, legal, health, employment and social services, etc.). The funds will also allow the completion of the renovation works of the flats in Gualdo Tadino, which is the first LGBTI+ shelter home in Umbria. Other donations to the project include the “Otto per Mille” funds from the Waldensian Church and the contributions from Coop Centro Italia (Member Sections of Gualdo Tadino, Perugia 1, 2 and 3) and Amazon Italia (DUM1 Group).

Stefano Bucaioni, President of Omphalos: "The partnership with the RWE Foundation guarantees the sustainability of Omphalos' support and sheltering interventions for LGBTI+ people who are victims of discrimination and violence. We are grateful to RWE for choosing to support this important project that will benefit the whole region. With this additional funding, the association will be able to continue to offer free services to young LGBTI+ people who suffered from discrimination and also respond to emergency situations with the new shelter home."

Paolo Raia, Country Chair of RWE Renewables Italia: “At RWE we want everyone to be free to be themselves and be able to deal openly with their sexual orientation and identity, without having to change who they are. We are proud to support the “Pink House” of Omphalos. It’s a really important project that will protect and support vulnerable people.”

In the two years since it was established, the Omphalos Anti-Discrimination Centre has responded to over 1,200 reports and requests for help and support from the LGBTI+ community from Umbria and beyond, providing free psychological, legal, health and employment support. The renovation work on the flats in Gualdo Tadino is now proceeding apace and, once completed, will allow Omphalos to also offer emergency housing support. Completion is scheduled for summer 2024.
